A prominent Italian eatery is gearing up to establish its presence in Walnut Creek.

Walnut Creek, California - High-end dining chain North Italia is set to occupy the former Tilly's space at 1276 South California Boulevard in Plaza Escuela, expanding their Bay Area presence and adding another prestigious dining option to the rapidly growing Walnut Creek restaurant scene.

City Economic Development officials confirmed the lease deal, as reported in an April news brief, characterizing it as part of the brand's expansion in the Bay Area.

A Glance at the Menu Ahead

Backed by Fox Restaurant Concepts (a subsidiary of The Cheesecake Factory), North Italia boasts an array of culinary delights, such as:

  • Artisan pastas featuring short-rib radiatori and squid-ink mafaldine.
  • Gourmet pizzas cooked in a gas-fired stone oven.
  • Seasonal dishes like chicken parmesan with aged provolone.
  • A bar offering cocktails with an Italian twist and a selection of Californian wines.

Many locations offer reduced pricing on small plates and spritzes during the weekday happy hour.

Anticipated Timeline and Job Opportunities

Although no specific opening date has been announced, an ABC license notice displayed on the storefront suggests that renovations are underway during the period of May 20. The restaurant is slated to debut late in 2025, contingent upon construction and state liquor approval.[1]

With over 150 employees typically hired per location, job openings for servers, bartenders, and line cooks should become available on the company's careers portal later this summer.[1]

Addressing a Pasta Void in Downtown

The Plaza Escuela vicinity already encompasses quick-service establishments like Habit Burger, yet casual Italian dining has been scarce (save for excellent pizza options such as Slice House). Economic Development officials assert that North Italia will attract evening foot traffic that would circulate to nearby retailers.[1]

As construction progresses and opening day approaches, we will provide updates. In the meantime, pasta enthusiasts should place North Italia on their restaurant radar for future visit.
