Affordable dwellings for homeless females announced in Mainz
In a significant move to address the needs of homeless women in Mainz, the association Poverty and Health has launched a new housing project named "Haus Bahar." This innovative initiative aims to provide a safe and supportive environment for women in need.
"Haus Bahar," meaning "spring, new beginning" in Persian, symbolizes hope and a fresh start for its residents. The project is mainly financed through donations from Poverty and Health and grants from a foundation.
Located in Mainz-Laubenheim, the house offers more than just a place to sleep. It provides a space for women to live together, with shared spaces intended for communal use. The house includes three bedrooms, an emergency sleeping place, a common room, a kitchen, and a bathroom.
The accommodation is not exclusive to women without a fixed address; victims of violence can also find refuge in "Haus Bahar." The house will be available for up to three women to move in from February 1, 2024.
Social worker Jenny Heinz and her colleague Marie Geske are responsible for the project. They aim to offer help with applications, as well as support for health and psychological problems. Regular office hours will be held in an office room within the house.
The Turning Point of Mission Life is the only contact point for women in Mainz, but it is usually fully occupied. By providing additional housing, "Haus Bahar" aims to fill this gap in the supply system for homeless women.
The goal of "Haus Bahar" is not just to help women temporarily, but to show them a perspective and provide long-term support. This approach aligns with the mission of Poverty and Health, which seeks to empower individuals and communities to overcome poverty and improve their health and well-being.
As of now, there is limited information available about "Haus Bahar" online. For precise and up-to-date information, it is recommended to consult the official Mainz city or social welfare websites, local NGOs or charities focused on homelessness or women's support in Mainz, or press releases or local news reports about "Haus Bahar."
