Andrei Borisov, People's Artist of Russia and Yakutia, laureate of State Prizes of the USSR, Russia, and Yakutia, is the one who has staged this masterpiece. Since its premiere on December 2, 2022, at the Mariinsky Theater, and December 6, 2022, at the Bolshoi Theater, the opera has been performed 18 times in Moscow, St. Petersburg, and Yakutsk to sold-out audiences.
The 55th theatrical season at the Opera and Ballet Theater will commence in 2025 with the opera-epic "Nurgun Bootur". As part of the interregional project "Yalta+Yakutsk. Olonho in Cinema," the cinematic version of the opera-epic was shown to residents of Crimea's cities: Yalta, Sevastopol, and Simferopol, in April 2025.
To further enhance accessibility, Russian subtitles will be provided, ensuring that everyone can enjoy this cultural spectacle. The project is a collaboration with the Yakut Republican Special Library for the Blind and Visually Impaired named after I.N. Egorov-Gorny.
Notable performer Ivan Stepanov, a bassist honored with a performance of the opera epic "Nurgun Bootur" on September 12 at the State Opera and Ballet Theatre, will also be part of this unique presentation. The performance on September 12 is dedicated to the great Russian bass, laureate of the 1st degree of the International Shalyapin Competition, Ivan Stepanov.
The opera-epic "Nurgun Bootur" will offer accessible audio descriptions for visually impaired audience members, allowing them to experience the story's nuances, character actions, appearances, sets, and costumes in a way that is engaging and immersive. This collaboration aims to break down barriers and bring the magic of opera to everyone.
