Alternative Tempo
The much-anticipated Kabawil Festival is set to return to Düsseldorf this August, bringing with it a diverse and vibrant programme of events. However, due to the ongoing pandemic, this year's festival, under the direction of Petra Kron, will be a departure from previous years.
The festival, which will take place from August 26 to 30, will primarily host outdoor events at Flurstraße 11a. The schedule, performances, workshops, and discussions, including those focusing on black Germans in Düsseldorf, are yet to be announced, as specific information about the Kabawil festival in August 2020 remains scarce.
One event that has been confirmed is "Kabawil Round #8," scheduled for August 27. The topic of discussion for this event seems particularly relevant given recent events, not just in the USA, as it asks, "In which Düsseldorf do we want to live?"
In addition to the main festival, there will be two preview events on August 15 and 22. These previews will include two new tours through the Flingern district, offering a sneak peek into what the festival has in store.
Admission to all events during the festival is free, and attendees can look forward to a variety of activities such as origami folding, screen printing, and meditative humming. The festival will also feature the Room of Silence, a peaceful space designed by two students from the Düsseldorf Art Academy, open throughout the festival for those seeking solitude.
The festival opening on August 26 will feature texts from various Kabawil writing workshops. For those interested in keeping up with the latest developments, the full program for the festival can be found at www.kabawil.de/wawa.
It is important to note that current distancing and hygiene regulations will apply during the festival to ensure the safety of all participants. Many participants from Kabawil workshops and training sessions will be involved in the festival, contributing to a unique and engaging experience.
While details about the festival are still emerging, one thing is certain: the Kabawil Festival is set to bring a burst of colour and culture to Düsseldorf this August. Stay tuned for more updates as they become available.
