Animation venture spearheaded by Princess of Wales' foundation to foster growth in young children

In August 2025, the Princess of Wales, Kate, unveiled an animated film series through the Royal Foundation Centre for Early Childhood. The aim of this series is to support social and emotional development in young children, providing families, charities, and early years professionals with valuable resources to nurture essential skills that form the foundation for healthy relationships and future well-being[1][2][3][4][5].

The project forms part of Princess Kate's legacy initiative "Early Years," which follows the principles laid out in the Shaping Us Framework launched in early 2023[2][3]. This framework emphasizes the importance of everyday human connections and nurturing interactions from pregnancy to age five. The main film and six explainer videos blend artistry and science to communicate complex child development concepts in an accessible animated format[2].

The series, available in Welsh and British Sign Language, is designed for broad use by charities, early years educators, parents, and carers. Princess Kate was actively involved in their creation, collaborating with animators and early childhood practitioners during workshops[1][4].

The animated film series is now available on YouTube. Additional resources include the Royal Foundation Centre for Early Childhood's website and social media channels, including Twitter. The "Shaping Us Framework" that underpins the series’ scientific and educational principles is also accessible[2][4].

The films highlight the critical role of early nurturing relationships in shaping children's social and emotional skills, which are "fundamental building blocks that can carry us through life," according to Princess Kate[1][3]. The initiative reflects the royal foundation's ongoing commitment since 2021 to transform society by improving early childhood experiences[1][3].

The new animated films from The Centre of Early Childhood showcase ways for adults to create nurturing, loving interactions with children to foster social and emotional development. By nurturing social and emotional skills in babies and children, the Princess of Wales suggests that we will raise a younger generation better equipped to face the future[1][3].

Princess Kate stresses the need to raise awareness of and celebrate everyday moments of connection, which are more important than ever in a rapidly changing world. The creative workshop for the films took place at her Royal Foundation Centre for Early Childhood, which was established in 2021[1].

It has been almost a year since she began her gradual return to work after finishing chemotherapy. The Princess of Wales is currently on a break from royal duties. In June, she spent time with two illustrators working on the films and met early years practitioners also involved in their creation[1].
