Aschaffenburg's Cycling Commitment Recognized: Re-certified as 'Bicycle-Friendly' Until 2031

Aschaffenburg's commitment to bike traffic promotion has been recognised and celebrated. The city, which has been a 'Bicycle-Friendly Municipality' since 2024, welcomed 35 Bavarian bicycle traffic experts for an excursion in July 2025. The event was organised by the AGFK (Working Group of Bicycle-Friendly Municipalities in Bavaria) and culminated in Mayor Herzing receiving the recertification certificate from Holger Schmidt, the deputy managing director of the AGFK.

Aschaffenburg's dedication to bike infrastructure is evident in its recent construction projects. The Main cycle path has been expanded and renovated, while the Auweg has been marked as a bicycle street. Additionally, a pedestrian and cycle path has been constructed on the B 26 Darmstadt Street. These improvements are part of the city's ongoing implementation of its 2015 bike traffic concept.

The city's annual funding of around 1 million euros for bicycle traffic promotion reflects its commitment to making cycling a viable and attractive mode of transport. This funding supports the city's network of main cycle routes, which are being successively improved. The city also ensures transparency and participation in its bike traffic promotion through an annual status report and cooperation with social representatives.

Aschaffenburg's bike traffic promotion has been recognised as a model for other Bavarian cities. Its recertification as a 'Bicycle-Friendly Municipality' until 2031 is a testament to its continued commitment to improving bike infrastructure and promoting cycling as a sustainable mode of transport. The city's efforts can be celebrated in its 10th anniversary image film, available at https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Zvd64ScXmiM.
