Auction off Animation Treasures and Rarities to Amass Funds for Los Angeles Wildfire Recovery
The animation industry banded together with ASIFA-Hollywood to launch AnimAID, a fundraising event hosted by Sotheby's. This charitable initiative aims to help industry professionals affected by the LA wildfires. Bigwigs like Disney, Warner Bros, Sony Pictures Animation, DreamWorks Animation, and more heavyweights have donated a plethora of rare and exclusive pieces of animation art for bidding, hoping to make a difference in people's lives.
Don Hahn, an animation producer responsible for 'Beauty and the Beast' and 'Howard', took to Instagram to champion the cause:
"The animation community took a hit from the LA fires, but now we're united, donating artwork to Sotheby's for a special auction. The profits go straight to AnimAID and victims of the LA fires."
The exhibition boasts over 90 years of stunning art from both cinema and television, showcasing classics like 'Snow White', 'The Simpsons', 'Inside Out', 'Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse', 'The Wild Robot', 'Beauty and the Beast', 'Avatar', and numerous other fan-favorites.
On the Instagram post, Hahn added, "Every bid counts – it helps people rebuild their homes and their lives."
The auction is ongoing, and here's a sneak peek at some of the items up for grabs. Expect film industry artist commissions, tours of prestigious animation studios, signed posters, and more, plus original production drawings and animation cells.
