Behind-the-scenes look at the filming process of Macpac's enchanting production
In an exciting venture, the Marine Stewardship Council (MSC) and outdoor gear company Macpac have joined forces to create the MSC x Macpac 'How-to' videos. These videos aim to provide guidance for outdoor adventures, particularly in Australia and New Zealand, and are now available on YouTube, social media, and the MSC's Watch page.
The project, an ongoing partnership with plans for season two, reconnects with the outdoors to make messages come to life and work together for fellow adventurers. Filming took place in Hakatere Conservation Park, with the MSC crew consisting of Rebekah, Tom, Marli, Ros, and Jared of Quite Nice Films, and the Macpac team including Holly and Allie, designers from their Christchurch base. Nathan, their inspirational leader, joined the team later.
The videos cover various features of essential outdoor equipment and answer questions about outdoor adventures, particularly in New Zealand. The topics are based on evidence-based research from MSC's insight work. Jared, responsible for the incredible videography skills used in the project, captured the team's quick clothing changes, posing for shots on a wasps nest, and laughing together during the filming.
Both organizations are excited for the future of outdoor recreation, with more people giving it a try and wanting to learn how to do it right. This ongoing partnership involves a lot of 'upstream' work from both organizations, including data collection and design development.
The MSC x Macpac 'How-to' videos mark a unique collaboration between a non-profit organization, established in 1965, and an outdoor gear company, founded in 1973. The partnership is part of their Outdoor Safety Retail Partnership, and the teams involved in the project included designers, writers, snack providers, and gear designers, in addition to experienced outdoor people.
Whether you're a seasoned adventurer or just starting out, these videos are a valuable resource for anyone looking to explore the great outdoors safely and confidently. Catch the MSC x Macpac 'How-to' videos on the MSC and Macpac YouTube channels and social media today!
