Benefits are extended to individuals who volunteer, through the use of cards.

The Ehrenamtscard, a card offered to volunteers who have dedicated at least three years of service, provides a range of benefits in the city of Marburg and the surrounding district. This card, presented at a joint ceremony twice a year, is now available for application until October 15, 2025.

To apply, citizens from the district can do so through the Fachdienst Partizipation, Ehrenamt und Sport of the district. Those living in the city of Marburg can apply through the city itself. The application process can be found online at www.ehrenamt.marburg-biedenkopf.de.

Interested individuals can obtain more information about the application process by calling 06421 405-1789 or via email at [email protected]. For Marburg residents, additional information can be obtained by calling 06421 201-2004 or via email at [email protected].

The Ehrenamtscard is awarded to volunteers who have been actively serving for at least three years, dedicating at least five hours per week. Currently, around 20,000 engaged people in Hesse have already discovered the E-Card.

Benefits of the Ehrenamtscard include free admission or discounts for events and facilities in the cities and communities of the district. For instance, a visit to the Botanical Garden or the Cineplex cinema can be enjoyed at a discounted price. The adult education centres of the district and the city of Marburg offer a fee reduction for courses, classes, and seminars with the Ehrenamtscard.

OBI stores in Biedenkopf, Gladenbach, and Marburg also provide a 10% discount on their products with the Ehrenamtscard. Many cities and communities offer free or discounted entry to their leisure pools and football home games as well.

Recipients of the Ehrenamtscard will be personally informed about the details of the planned event. The next Ehrenamtscard ceremony is scheduled for Thursday, December 4, 2025.

In addition, the three-year activity requirement is waived for holders of the common app. To stay updated on important news from the town hall and city life, subscribe to the newsletter of the Universitätsstadt Marburg.
