Boulder's Namaste Solar Powers Modular Homes, Boosting City's Green Goals
Boulder, Colorado, is taking significant steps towards its sustainability goals. The city has committed to reducing greenhouse gas emissions by 70% by 2030 and achieving net-zero status by 2035. A recent project by Namaste Solar, a Certified B Corporation, is helping Boulder move closer to these targets.
Namaste Solar, founded in 2005, has installed over 13,500 solar projects. Their latest installation is a 333.5 kW rooftop solar project for Boulder Mod, a modular home factory in Boulder, Colorado. This project was made possible by a $333,540 grant from the Energy Impact Offset Fund and the Inflation Reduction Act.
Boulder Mod is a partnership between the City of Boulder, Flatirons Habitat for Humanity, and the Boulder Valley School District. It aims to produce high-performance, permanently affordable homes on a predictable schedule, contributing to Boulder's goal of having 15% permanently affordable homes by 2035. The modular homes are designed to be energy-efficient and all-electric, catering to low- to middle-income households.
The solar system installed by Namaste Solar is designed to offset Boulder Mod's total expected electricity consumption. This not only supports Boulder Mod's mission but also helps Boulder meet its goal of having 145 MW of local generation and storage by 2030. Currently, the city stands at 105 MW.
The Namaste Solar project for Boulder Mod is a significant step towards Boulder's sustainability goals. It supports the production of affordable, energy-efficient homes while also contributing to the city's renewable energy targets. This collaboration between a local business and the city demonstrates Boulder's commitment to reducing its carbon footprint and promoting sustainable development.
