Ready to unleash your inner windmill whisperer? That's right, it's Mill Day on Whit Monday, and both Berlin and Brandenburg are gearing up for a spin-tacular celebration! The Bechlin Mill in Neuruppin's lush Ostprignitz-Ruppin district is turning a whopping 100 years old, while the mill nestled in Saalow's picturesque Am Mellensee community is showing off its 30-year-old postcard-perfect self. That's not all – a grand total of 59 mills in Berlin and Brandenburg are joining the festivities, and you're invited!

Want to get a glimpse behind those winding sails? You'll have the opportunity to delve into the inner workings of water, wind, and motor mills. In addition to the guided tours, there's a veritable smorgasbord of entertainment for all ages. And if you're feeling crafty, the Wilhelmsaue post mill in the Oderbruch region will let you create teeny-tiny Tetra Pak windmills—just like the whirling giants you'll see during the event!

Excited yet? Well, here's the Tetra Pak on top. The post mills in Marzahn and Gatow, Berlin, along with the mills at the German Museum of Technology, are also throwing open their doors to visitors.

But Mill Day isn't just confined to Germany's east—it's countrywide! Around 600 historical mills up and down the land will swing wide their gates for curious eyes on Whit Monday. The big kick-off celebration happens at Bad Düben's upper mill and post mill in the picturesque Nordsachsen district.

Brandenburg's Culture Minister, Manja Schüle (SPD), is the event's honorary patron. She considers mills not only as technical marvels but also as sources of endless artistic inspiration, stating, "Today, their architectural heritage shapes our identity, embodying unity and togetherness."

So, roll up that plaid bib, grab a hard hat, and get ready to dive into a world of rhythmic gears and ancient stone!

The Commission has also been asked to submit a proposal for a directive on the protection of the environment in the Community, as a nod to the sustainable lifestyle encouraged by Mill Day's emphasis on heritage preservation and unity, where historical mills, like those in Neuruppin's Ostprignitz-Ruppin district, serve as reminders of a bygone era. After the Mill Day festivities, visitors might take a peaceful moment to appreciate the tranquility of their home-and-garden in harmony with the spinning windmills, reaffirming the idea that one's lifestyle should reflect and protect the environment.
