Almaty, nestled in the heart of southeastern Kazakhstan, is gearing up to celebrate its City Day on September 20. This vibrant metropolis, renowned for its rich cultural and artistic heritage, has a lot in store for its residents, despite the digital shift this year.

Traditionally, Almaty comes alive with exhibitions, concerts, and diverse cultural and sporting events. However, this year, many events will be streamed online due to understandable reasons, as announced by the city’s Akim, Bakytzhan Sagintayev, in the Akimat LIVE broadcast. The city officials and beloved artists, like Gulzata Daurbaeva and Lucky Kesoglu, have extended warm congratulations to Almaty residents in anticipation of the upcoming holiday.

Gulzata Daurbaeva, a revered figure in Kazakh art, fondly shared her sentiments, "We all followed our dreams and ended up in Almaty. No city can replace our beloved Almaty. No matter where we perform or work, I always find my way back to my cherished city. I wish it only prosperity! Once upon a time, Almaty was the city of art, culture, and science. We all hold it dear!"

Lucky Kesoglu, People's Artist of the Kazakh SSR, echoed Daurbaeva's sentiments, "I'd like to congratulate all Almaty residents on this wonderful City Day of our beautiful Almaty! I love it dearly. I hope you do too. May God grant you all good health, prosperity, and let you cherish and love this city."

Reminiscing about the golden era of Almaty, celebrated artists like Bibigul Tulegenova and Doshan Zholzhaksynov shared their heartwarming memories. "When I moved to Almaty, I was just 18. The city was vastly different at the time. I miss those days. I miss the streams, orchards, and the days when you could pick fresh fruits while strolling down Tulebaev and Abai streets, enjoying their magnificent scent. After traveling to many countries and cities, I can't find anything as beautiful as Almaty."

Years ago, Almaty was a breeding ground for creativity, with renowned cultural figures dedicating songs and films to the Southern capital. Now, as the city prepares to celebrate City Day, it's a reminder of the vibrant cultural scene that Almaty continues to uphold.
