Charity proceeds from the Harburger Rotary Duck Race amount to a substantial donation of 10,000 Euros to the Harburger Tafel.

The Harburg Food Bank is set to move to a new location at Buxtehuder Straße 56, "Seckerdiek-Haus" next to the Max store, by the end of the year. The move comes with high costs and a significantly higher rent, as the food bank will now pay 6,500 euros per month, an increase from the current 400 euros.

In a bid to help with the additional expenses, the Rotary Club of Hamburg-Harburg recently held the 14th Duck Race, which raised 10,000 euros. Six Rotary Club representatives - Bernd Westermann, Torsten Schumacher, Thorsten Hamel, Luhr Weber, Michael Witthöft, and Heinz Lührs - visited the Harburg Food Bank to hand over the symbolic check.

Michael Witthöft, a member of the Rotary Club, stated that the decision to support the food bank was made due to the planned move and the high costs of renovating the new premises. The donated funds will be used for the construction of a new cooling room, which is estimated to cost 20,000 euros.

Sabine Pena, the director of the Harburg Food Bank, expressed her disappointment about the lack of support from the district for the move. She noted that even moves of animal shelters are supported in other districts. To manage the increased costs, the food bank may need to increase the price for food distribution from the current two euros for two boxes to three to four euros.

The visit to the Harburg Food Bank included a tour and an update on the move's status with Sabine Pena. After the move, the old location will be demolished, and a new building for a drug facility and social housing will be built on the site.

For the most accurate and up-to-date information on the Harburg Food Bank's renovation and relocation, we recommend checking local Hamburg news outlets, the food bank's official website or social media pages, or contacting the food bank directly.

Other funding options for the Harburg Food Bank's high rental costs and renovation may include exploring partnerships with home-and-garden stores or sustainable-living advocates, who could help reduce costs through donated goods or grants. The new cooling room, funded by the Rotary Club, will be essential for maintaining a sustainable-living approach to food distribution at the Harburg Food Bank.
