Affordable Family Fun at UK Cinemas this Summer

UK cinema chains, including Cineworld, are making summer 2025 a great time for families to enjoy a day at the movies. The popular £1 family film screenings, offered by Cineworld, are back and running from July 25 to August 28, allowing families to watch recent popular children’s films for just £4 total during morning screenings [1][3]. This initiative has already attracted over 300,000 UK cinemagoers [3].

In addition to the £1 summer deal, Cineworld runs the Movies for Juniors scheme all year round, where both adults and children pay a flat rate of £3.99 for weekend and school holiday morning screenings of family-friendly films [1].

Other UK cinema chains, such as ODEON, provide Kids’ Screenings during school holidays and weekends with tickets starting at £2.75 for adults and children alike [1]. These screenings typically feature recent family films and take place in the mornings.

Beyond pay-per-ticket promotions, some chains also offer membership or subscription passes with discounted rates and extra perks. For example, some cinema chains provide monthly membership tiers granting access to multiple screenings per month at a fixed price (starting around £16.99 to £19.99 monthly) [2].

Cineworld is also running a £5 'family blockbusters' scheme throughout August, featuring films like How To Train Your Dragon, Lilo & Stitch and Elio [4]. The goal of these initiatives is to get people back into cinemas and rekindle their love for the cinema experience [6].

Stuart Crane, international vice president of content for Cineworld Group Plc, expressed hope that the schemes will continue in some capacity after the summer [7]. He mentioned that the initiatives are aimed at being price sensitive during a period when families struggle to find value in leaving their homes [6].

The 'Family Films' initiative started earlier in Scotland and is on track to pass 500,000 admissions by the end of the summer [3]. As average ticket prices have been climbing for 10 to 15 years [5], these affordable family deals help families find affordable entertainment, especially during school holidays, by making cinema visits accessible and wallet-friendly [1][3][5].
