Title: Spy on Feathered Friends in Berlin: Join the "Hour of Garden Birds"!

Get your binoculars ready, Berliners! This spring, immerse yourself in nature as you help conserve Berlin's avian population. The Nature Conservation Union (NABU) and the Bavarian Nature Conservation Association (LBV) have invited the public to participate in the "Hour of Garden Birds," a event spanning May 9-11.

In the heart of our vibrant city, keep an eye out for the strikingly beautiful Peregrine falcons and the energetic kingfishers, but don't overlook the lesser-known species such as the chaffinch, with its red face and yellow wing stripes, or the redstart, with its distinctive bobbing red tail. Even common birds like sparrows and pigeons play a vital role, so don't forget to jot them down too!

Last year, over 36,000 birds were tallied through the citizen science efforts. Curious about which bird species roam the Berlin metropolitan area? Here's a hint: Typical birds you might spot in Berlin's urban and suburban spaces include house sparrows, great tits, blue tits, blackbirds, robins, starlings, chaffinches, and sometimes jackdaws, magpies, and greenfinches.

Ready to join in? Simply pick a quiet spot—be it your backyard, a nearby park, or even your living room window—and note the highest number of each species seen within an hour. You can submit your results online, through an app, or by mail. Participation isn't just for the bird-watching pros—children are welcome to participate too!

Want to join a group? Head to Lichtenberg district on May 11 at 9:00 AM at the Wartenberger field, or bring your kids to the Rummelsburger Bucht on May 10 at 2:00 PM.

After all, every birds counts!
