City partners with retailers, schools, kindergartens, and other organizations to secure funding for city amenities such as beds and buckets, enriching the city's environment!
In the heart of Neuss, Germany, a vibrant and community-driven greening project has taken root. Last week, the streets of Neu-, Sebastianus-, Michael-, and Erftstraße, as well as Glockhammer, were adorned with beds and tubs filled with a variety of plants, as part of an initiative led by local organisations and enthusiastic citizens.
The kick-off event took place on Münsterplatz, where the Innenstadt-Geschäftsleute action was launched. The event was graced by the presence of Christoph Napp-Saarbourg, Chairman of ZIN, Sandra Breuer, co-chair of "Green Heart", Mayor Reiner Breuer, and many passionate citizens.
Sandra Breuer, in her address, expressed heartfelt gratitude to the actors involved for their contributions to the city and homeland. She also expressed hope that the motivation for participation in the greening action will last for a long time. Napp-Saarbourg shared similar sentiments, expressing his hope that the motivation for a greener Neuss will remain strong.
The action on Freithof was initiated by Werner Küsters, who supports "Green Heart Neuss" with his garden courtyard Küsters. Linus Schmitz from the garden and landscape company F. & F. Schmitz brought numerous plants financed by ZIN and "Green Heart" for the planting action. The plants brought by Schmitz include cardinal flower, ball moss, sedum, sunflower, lavender, and thyme. A colorful flower meadow will soon bloom on Freithof, cared for by the Kita and the altar servers of St. Quirin.
The goal of the project is to make the surroundings brighter and to teach children that they can make a difference. Kita director Sarah Pinto Martin emphasised this point, stating that the project aims to instil in children the understanding that they can contribute positively to their environment.
Private individuals can also participate in sponsorship for the action. Breuer expressed hope for more sponsors to join the action towards the Landesgartenschau 2026. Contact information for "Green Heart" association and ZIN were provided for those interested in sponsorship ([email protected] and [email protected] respectively).
The community spirit of the action was praised by Mayor Breuer, who stated that it brings together different actors. The success of the greening project in Neuss is a testament to the power of community cooperation and the shared desire for a greener, more beautiful city.
Sandra Breuer, co-chair of "Green Heart", expressed her hope that the motivation for participating in the home-and-garden action, such as the one at Freithof with plants like cardinal flower, ball moss, and sunflower, will continue as part of the other lifestyle initiatives in Neuss. Christoph Napp-Saarbourg, Chairman of ZIN, also shared similar sentiments, hoping for a lasting commitment to the green lifestyle in the city.
