Clock enthusiasts, are you intrigued? Maritimes Clock Club awaits!
In the captivating Maritime provinces of Canada – Nova Scotia, New Brunswick, and Prince Edward Island – there seems to be a void when it comes to active clock and watch clubs. A recent search yielded no publicly available records or mentions of such clubs in the region, suggesting either a weak online presence or the absence of formal organizations dedicated to horology up to 2021.
However, this doesn't mean that the Maritimes are devoid of horological enthusiasts. Across the country, horology communities often thrive under national or regional watchmaker associations or clubs. For instance, the National Association of Watch and Clock Collectors (NAWCC) has a strong presence in Canada, with at least 3 active chapters in Ontario and one in Montreal.
One dedicated enthusiast, who has been a member of NAWCC for a decade, has experienced the benefits firsthand. Having attended NAWCC meetings in Ottawa and the 2019 NAWCC National Convention, they have found a community of like-minded individuals who share a passion for horology.
Recognising the potential for a similar community in the Maritimes, this individual has taken the initiative to foster the seeds of a new club. The Maritime Association of Watch and Clock Collectors was formed by members from various parts of the region, and held its first meeting on November 2-3, 2019 in Prince Edward Island. The gathering included an educational component, with a lesson in bushing, underscoring the group's commitment to learning and sharing expertise.
