Lange Street in Hagen, Germany, is set for a unique transformation this weekend as the annual Parking Day event kicks off. Originally started by the organization Rebar in San Francisco in 2005, Parking Day has since become a global phenomenon, with local organizers hosting events worldwide. This year, Stadt.Leben.Dornbirn and Wirkraum in Dornbirn, and the local city administration and neighborhood actors in Hagen, are joining the movement.

The heart of the event is the transformation of parking spaces into creative and inviting spaces. Merchants and craftsmen are ensuring a steady supply of food and drinks, while beer garden tables and benches are being set up to create a convivial atmosphere.

Among the creative events scheduled for Parking Day is a climate strike demonstration. Starting from Friedrich-Ebert-Platz in the city center, the demonstration will make its way to Wilhelmsplatz in Wehringhausen. The demonstration is not part of the merchants and craftsmen community providing food and drinks, but it is an integral part of the events planned for Parking Day, aiming to make the day more inviting and creative.

To accommodate the transformed parking spaces during Parking Day, tram bus lines 521 and 525 in Hagen will be rerouted, running via Buscheystraße. Line NE3 will also be affected, running via Wehringhauser Straße. The rerouting is necessary as Parking Day takes place on Lange Street.

The opening of Parking Day is scheduled for this evening, and events are planned throughout the weekend. The climate strike demonstration is part of the events scheduled for today, starting in the evening. Parking spaces will be transformed, beer garden tables and benches will be set up, and the streets of Hagen will come alive with creativity and community spirit.

So, if you're in Hagen this weekend, be sure to check out Parking Day on Lange Street. It's an event not to be missed!
