Construction on the new nursery in Blanche has commenced
Nordhorn Opens Second Municipal-Run Kindergarten
The city of Nordhorn has expanded its childcare facilities with the opening of a new small kindergarten, located at Niedersachsenstraße 78, in the former kindergarten "Eulennest". This marks the second kindergarten in municipal care, the first being the highly-regarded "Haus für Kinder".
The new kindergarten, which is being equipped with new furniture in time for the planned opening date, has the same high quality standards as its counterpart. Frank Elskamp, the facility manager of the new kindergarten, also manages the "Haus für Kinder".
Mayor Thomas Berling expressed his delight, stating that the new nursery is one of the building blocks in the city's comprehensive package of measures to expand child daycare. The aim is to create around 200 new nursery places for children under three years old and approximately 225 kindergarten places for children aged three and above by the end of 2020.
The building, previously owned by the municipal housing association, was built specifically for a kindergarten about 15 years ago and was made available to the city of Nordhorn for its children and youth work. GEWO, the managing body, quickly agreed to let the city have the building for the creation of new care places, particularly in the kindergarten area.
GEWO managing director Reno Schuett conveyed best wishes for the new kindergarten, expressing confidence it will fit well into the family-friendly environment around Niedersachsenstraße, Pommernstraße, and Wuerttemberger Straße. City councilor Marlies Schomakers and city building director Thimo Weitemeier also welcomed the staff of the new kindergarten.
Currently, the kindergarten is caring for 15 children under the age of three, from Monday to Friday until 2 pm. Elskamp aims to find a name for the new kindergarten together with the parents and staff.
Elsewhere in the city, work is currently underway on the pavilion on the grounds of the former Frensdorfer School. GEWO will convert this into a daycare center with a nursery and a regular group, and the city will take on the sponsorship of this facility. Operations are expected to begin there in the first quarter of 2019.
In recent months, three new large daycare facilities with a total of nearly 30 places have already started operations. Schomakers is convinced that the new kindergarten has a family-friendly character and will provide a good solution for the kindergarten "Eulennest", which is expected to reopen its doors at the beginning of 2019 after moving to the Grundschule Blanke.
Despite the new kindergarten not providing information about its leader, it is clear that the city of Nordhorn is committed to providing high-quality childcare for its residents.
