Cultivating personal vegetable garden, harvesting city park wild herbs, and conducting urban tours within the city park
The city of Gütersloh, in partnership with the Volkshochschule, is set to host the eleventh edition of the "Living Gardens" event series. This year-long program, which begins in September 2025, aims to educate participants about various aspects of gardening and sustainability.
The event series, consisting of 15 practical and diverse events, is open to the public and targeted at both experienced garden enthusiasts and beginners. The program offers a range of topics, including vegetable culture, modern and nature-friendly garden design, wild herb cuisine, and gardens in the age of climate change.
The series kicks off in September with four events: a guided tour by Daniela Toman in the city park and the botanical garden, a lecture by Dr. Heidi Lorey on growing winter vegetables, and a lecture by Tanja Minardo on gardens in the age of climate change.
On September 25, 2025, Dr. Heidi Lorey will provide tips on growing winter vegetables. Meanwhile, Tanja Minardo, a renowned garden architect, will give a lecture on gardens in the age of climate change on October 8, 2025, at 7:30 PM in the VHS building in Gütersloh. She focuses on nature-friendly gardening that benefits the natural environment.
The program brochure for the "VHS theme series: Living Gardens in Gütersloh" is available at the Environmental Consultation of the city of Gütersloh. For further events and details, visitors can visit the website of the Volkshochschule Gütersloh at www.vhs-gt.de.
In addition to lectures, the event series features expert excursions, practical cooking and gardening courses, and more. Registration for the individual events can be done on the website, by phone, or by email.
