The 18th Essen Environmental Award is set to take place on September 15, 2025, with a focus on social aspects. This prestigious award aims to honour neighborhood, association, community, school, and kindergarten projects that have made significant strides in climate and environmental protection, as well as projects with a focus on environmental and climate topics in social settings.
The award ceremony, scheduled for December, will officially announce and honour all prize winners. In total, a sum of 12,000 euros in prize money will be distributed among the winners. BIB - BANK IM BISTUM ESSEN eG is providing 10,000 euros, while the city administration is awarding a 2,000 euro 'Fairtrade 2025' special prize.
Interested parties can find all the necessary information about the award on www.our website/umwelpreis. For the 'Fairtrade' special prize, applicants are encouraged to contact Melanie Bayo from the environmental department of the city portal at 0201 88-59131 or via [email protected] website.
Projects eligible for the award must have been realized within the last two years and current measures must be completed by the end of January 2026. It is important to note that projects that are or have been funded by communal or BIB funding projects are excluded from participation.
The expert jury for the award consists of representatives from the city administration, EWG - Essener Wirtschaftsfoerderungsgesellschaft mbH, the volunteer agency, politics, media, and BANK IM BISTUM ESSEN eG. The jury seeks projects that not only focus on environmental or climate protection and climate adaptation, but also offer a social benefit and improve the quality of life locally.
The city portal is also looking for social projects with a focus on environmental and climate topics, such as projects involving youth, seniors, refugees, and disadvantaged groups. These projects will be considered for the 'Fairtrade' special prize.
