Demolition of the old skate park in Neu Olvenstedt for a new facility

The demolition of the old skatepark in Neu Olvenstedt, Magdeburg, marks the beginning of an exciting transformation. Overseen by the Eigenbetrieb Stadtgarten und Friedhöfe Magdeburg, the demolition of all outdated elements will pave the way for a comprehensive renovation.

The demolition, which commenced yesterday, is expected to take approximately 14 days, depending on weather conditions. The process is currently underway, as shown in a photo by Annekatrin Thurm. The area has been secured with construction fences and is temporarily closed to the public for safety reasons.

The demolition costs around 37,000 euros and is funded primarily by assets from the parties and mass organizations of the GDR (PMO), with additional funds from the Federal Office for Special Tasks Arising from Unification (BvS). These funds are disbursed in several installments to the eastern German federal states for specific investments by the public sector and non-state carriers for economic, social, and cultural projects.

This demolition is the first phase of constructing a new modern skatepark in Neu Olvenstedt. Construction of the new facility is scheduled to begin later this summer. The project was discussed and approved around 2022, with community involvement and local government planning.

The new skatepark is expected to provide modern, safe, and versatile skateboarding infrastructure, catering to all skill levels. The construction is financed primarily through municipal funds allocated by the city of Magdeburg, supported by local government budgets with possible contributions from regional development programs aimed at youth and recreational facilities. The total budget for the skatepark construction is estimated to be in the range of several hundred thousand euros.

During the construction phase, some restrictions may occur. The city council and official press releases are the best sources for the most up-to-date information regarding these restrictions and the project's progress. Stay tuned for more updates on the transformation of the skatepark in Neu Olvenstedt, Magdeburg.

The transformation, once complete, will not only include a modern skatepark but also a revamp of the surrounding home-and-garden landscapes, as part of the other lifestyle changes planned for the area. The city council has been encouraging community members to share their ideas for the home-and-garden renovation, making it a collaborative effort towards improving the overall lifestyle of Neu Olvenstedt.
