DHL Supply Chain and Fortum Battery Recycling have announced a long-term partnership to develop and deliver tailored service logistics for electric vehicle (EV) battery recycling across Europe. This collaboration aims to promote sustainable resource use and establish closed-loop solutions in e-mobility, supporting the circular economy.
Under the agreement, DHL Supply Chain will manage the safe and efficient transportation, storage, handling, and just-in-time delivery of used EV batteries to Fortum's processing sites. The logistics solutions are specially designed to meet stringent technical, safety, and regulatory requirements related to battery end-of-life management.
Fortum Battery Recycling is Europe’s only provider offering end-to-end solutions across the battery recycling value chain. Using advanced hydrometallurgical and mechanical processes, they recover critical raw materials such as lithium, cobalt, and nickel with high yield and minimal waste. This supports a sustainable and circular approach by enabling material recovery with low CO2 emissions.
Recently, Fortum introduced its Battery Box service in Germany and Finland, which simplifies the collection and recycling of lithium-ion EV batteries while ensuring regulatory compliance and circular material recovery.
