Düsseldorf Building and Saving Cooperative eG (DuBS) officially unveiled their new building at the Sunflower Field on Krahnenburgstraße in Lichtenbroich.

Düsseldorf's Lichtenbroich district welcomes over 150 new residents.

The Düsseldorf Building and Savings Association eG (DuBS) has commemorated the unveiling of its new Sonnenblumenfeld complex in Lichtenbroich, welcoming approximately 500 attendees, including residents from other DuBS properties. The festivities, held at Krahnenburgstraße in Sonnenblumenfeld, highlighted the presence of residents from the newly-inhabited apartments since May.

One of the significant milestones in this event is the birth of the first Sonnenblumenfeld baby, showcasing the diversity of the community that ranges from infants to seniors. Of the 160 residents, four apartments are adapted for disabled individuals with adjustable interiors. The apartments vary in size, with a minimum of 43 square meters and a maximum of 138 square meters, priced from €6.60 to €11.90 per square meter. Approximately 40% of the living space in Sonnenblumenfeld is publicly funded or subsidized.

Each apartment is equipped with a tablet controlling essential functions such as temperature, lighting, blinds, and the doorbell, as well as displaying electricity consumption. While some residents are adapting to the modern smart-home technology, others find it a bit challenging. The complex is heated by a combined heat and power plant and incorporates integrated photovoltaic systems.

The Sonnenblumenfeld caters to cyclists with repair stations, garages, charging stations, and package boxes for delivery services. For residents' convenience, there are parking spaces in the underground garage, as well as garages and storage spaces for bicycles and cargo bikes. A repair station is available for e-bikes and e-cars, and a room for strollers is located in all entrance areas. A package station has been built for all common delivery services.

The green rooftop terrace offers a relaxing atmosphere and provides gardening opportunities with raised beds equipped with water supply and gardening tools. A fully equipped two-room apartment is available for rent to accommodate visitors or other DuBS tenants visiting Düsseldorf.

The Sonnenblumenfeld marks the beginning of the development of the Wiesenviertel quarter. Existing buildings from the 1940s and 1950s are being demolished, while single-family houses in the northern part are being renovated and modernized. Future plans include constructing more multi-family houses in the south, with the entire project expected to be completed by 2026. The Sonnenblumenfeld is situated at the crossroads of Krahnenburgstraße, Wittlaerer Weg, Einbrunger Weg, and Volkardeyer Weg.

The adjacent area will undergo development in subsequent phases. For over 75 years, DuBS has been dedicated to creating affordable and contemporary housing for its members, owning and managing approximately 1,700 residential units offering more than 109,000 square meters of living space throughout Düsseldorf, including areas like Eller, Lierenfeld, and Lichtenbroich. Additionally, there are approximately 3,300 square meters of commercial space. DuBS operates based on cooperative principles and serves over 2,600 members. More information about DuBS and its rental offers can be found on their official website.
