Essen welcomes a fresh, new outdoor shopping experience: a holiday market!
In an exciting development for the city of Essen, a new after-work market is set to debut at the picturesque castle ruins in Essen-Burgaltendorf. This pilot project, organised by EVV Verwertungs- und Betriebs GmbH (EVB), the organiser of the Essen weekly markets, aims to create a new event highlight not just within Burgaltendorf, but beyond the district as well.
Alina Minor, from the market department of EVB, is leading the organisation of this innovative event, with Olaf Ullrich coordinating alongside her. The goal is to expand the existing after-work market offer on Margarethenhöhe and bring a unique market experience to the historic atmosphere of Burgaltendorf.
The castle ruins, with their certain charm, provide the perfect backdrop for a summer market atmosphere in the evening. Caterers from the immediate vicinity of the Essen Ruhr peninsula will also be participating, offering a variety of food options, including bratwurst, steak, and sweet dishes. Freshly tapped beer, summer wine, cocktails, and non-alcoholic refreshments will be available to quench your thirst.
Visitors can look forward to various seating and stay options, making for a relaxing summer evening out. Members of the Heimat- und Burgverein Burgaltendorf will be present as cooperation partners, adding a local touch to the event.
The premiere of this new after-work market is scheduled for Thursday, July 17, from 4 p.m. to 9 p.m. Due to limited parking, vehicles can be parked at the Church of the Sacred Heart on the Old Main Street. The ruined castle is easily accessible by public transportation, with bus lines 166 from Steele and express buses from the city centre.
This new after-work market in Essen-Burgaltendorf marks the expansion of a successful after-work market concept to other locations in Essen. The organisers are relying on proven concepts and familiar faces for the market, and if it proves to be well-received, plans for regular events during the summer months are in the works.
