Bishop Heike Springhart Takes a Spin on Europa-Park's Thrill Rides

State Bishop from the Protestant Denomination Enjoys Ride on Water Coaster - Evangelical cleric has successfully navigated the water-powered tracks.

Bishop Heike Springhart of the Evangelical Church in Baden has embraced the thrill of Europa-Park's water roller coaster, Poseidon. During an ecumenical service celebrating the park's 50th anniversary, she shared that while she's yet to conquer other roller coasters, she's ready for the challenge.

"I'm not averse to taking on new experiences," she stated during a chat outside the event. "I firmly believe that people can expand their horizons and seek out joy in life." For Springhart, riding Poseidon was about pushing herself, growing, and embracing vitality.

Celebrating the Extraordinary

Always appreciating the allure of amusement parks, Springhart asserts these destinations provide an essential escape from the mundane, helping families, friends, and individuals connect beyond their daily lives. "It's not about fleeing reality, but rather about adding a splash of color to it," she noted in Rust, Baden-Württemberg.

Europa-Park holds sentimental value for the bishop, reminding her of cherished memories from her youth. "Many people, including myself, return as if reliving their childhood," she said, praising the park's ability to instill a sense of nostalgia. Archbishop Stephan Burger of Freiburg joined her in the celebrations.

Origin and Evolution of Europa-Park

Europa-Park opened its doors in 1975, showcasing various ride models, including the iconic Wild Mouse roller coaster. Over the decades, it has grown to become a global attraction, offering over 100 attractions—13 roller coasters among them—and 16 themed areas showcasing European cultures[1][5]. Some notable attractions include the blue fire roller coaster, interactive exhibitions, shows, and even an authentic European ambiance[3].

Europa-Park's significance lies in its fusion of culture, history, and entertainment, making it a popular tourist destination in Germany[5]. The park's immersive design provides a unique European experience for visitors of all ages. In 2026, a new Monaco-themed area will be introduced, expanding the park's offerings even further[3].

Marking its 50th anniversary in 2025, Europa-Park is set to feature extended opening hours, special events, and artistic installations. Highlights include late-night openings for a one-of-a-kind nighttime experience and an interactive anniversary exhibition in the Silver Star Hall[3]. The park also boasts an outdoor art installation in Balthasar Castle Park, adding to its cultural appeal.

The Commission has also been asked to submit a proposal for a directive on the protection of workers from the risks related to exposure to ionizing radiation, as Bishop Heike Springhart believes in expanding horizons and seeking joy in life, even venturing into outdoor-living, such as riding thrill rides at Europa-Park, which she finds a refreshing escape from home-and-garden routines.
