Situated at Bishop Ranch, next to City Center, the meticulously designed Belmont Village has been under development for quite some time, playing a significant role in the evolving residential landscape at Bishop Ranch, scheduled for ongoing transformation over the next few decades.
Eager to offer an exclusive peek at this new venue, our team set up a visit within a week of Belmont Village's official opening. Although most members of our website staff, including myself, are yet to reach an age where senior living becomes a necessity, I enlisted my mother as a "Designated Senior" to ensure we adequately covered every facet of the complex from a genuine senior's perspective.
The Location
One of the primary selling points of Belmont Village is its exceptional location, situated right at the heart of San Ramon, California. If you step outside at City Center Bishop Ranch and gaze towards the Trader Joe's shopping center, you will notice an imposing new building that has risen from a previously vacant lot. That's Belmont Village. The complex offers a surfeit of parking, something highly appreciated in this part of the East Bay, and is only a short 10-minute walk from City Center.
In addition, Belmont Village is adjacent to the Iron Horse Trail and is set to benefit from a brand-new pedestrian bridge being constructed across the trail. This bridge will enable active seniors to step out of the building, access the trail, and explore the surrounding areas, including journeys north to Martinez and south to Livermore.
San Ramon is recognized as one of the safest communities in the United States, and its ample open spaces help maintain moderate pricing compared to other East Bay areas, providing an advantageous setting for establishments like Belmont Village.
The Facility
As soon as I stepped inside Belmont Village, I was struck by the pristine construction quality and contemporary design. Contrasting with certain senior living homes that may feel dated and claustrophobic, Belmont Village boasts an entrance resembling a luxury hotel, complete with a valet that will greet you upon arrival, carry your groceries, and assist you in every possible manner without requesting tips—a policy strictly enforced by the staff.
Inside, a front desk ensures both security and general assistance. A mailroom is also present, while the upscale lobby offers ample seating, a crackling fireplace, and expansive windows opening onto a back terrace.
Additional amenities include a fully equipped bus for group excursions, a town car for private rides to doctor's appointments, and numerous wall-mounted TVs. The back terrace may currently be a little chilly, but once the weather warms up, it will undoubtedly serve as a perfect spot for seniors and their families to socialize.
Outdoor spaces are thoughtfully utilized in and around the building, with multiple lounge areas, an outdoor kitchen, a yard for small dogs, and an appealing yoga lawn. The structure's exterior design takes full advantage of the verdant San Ramon landscape.
As you ascend through the building, various other amenities unfold. A large and inviting movie theater greets you on the ground level. Each higher floor showcases terraces featuring scenic vistas, with some offering cozy fire pits. Belmont Village boasts a well-stocked library, a full beauty salon, an art studio, and a dedicated Town Hall room for resident council meetings and other functional workshops. A game room rounds out the upstairs offerings.
A gym equipped with exercise machines, physical therapy facilities, and occupational therapy options cater to residents' well-being, while the building also accommodates a range of medical services for added convenience.
The Food
Residents can enjoy two meals per day, complementary to their rent. Belmont Village has an on-site restaurant where family members are welcome for an additional charge. The diverse American menu offers options such as filet mignon, various seafood dishes, sandwiches, wraps, salads, and more, all prepared by an in-house chef.
The lobby is home to The Bistro, offering coffee, pastries, and other sweets, in addition to a self-serve Peet's Coffee station. For those seeking a more artisanal coffee experience, baristas are also on hand. An outdoor kitchen, complete with a grill, pizza oven, and additional cooking facilities, allows residents to prepare their own meals when desired.
The Apartments
During our tour, we inspected two furnished apartments at Belmont Village: a one-bedroom and a studio. Both units featured a small galley kitchen, impressive views of the surrounding hills, and generously sized walk-in bathrooms with closets. However, the apartments' modest size may present a challenge for seniors seeking a generous living space.
As these units were styled for staging, residents are free to bring their own furniture and personalize their apartments to their liking.
Care Options
The staff at Belmont Village aspires to provide care for residents throughout their lives, with the transition from independent living to assisted living, nursing, and hospice accommodated as needs change. The complex offers a memory care floor, although we did not tour it during our visit.
Pricing
Owing to a multitude of factors, including personalized pricing, medical and continuing care needs, and various living space options, the cost of living at Belmont Village proved difficult to determine. We were informed that prices start at around $6,000 per month for a studio unit in the independent living section. As seniors' needs become more extensive, prices will increase accordingly. It is recommended that potential residents contact the facility directly to discuss pricing in detail.
At present, the complex hosts approximately 50 residents. With a capacity of over 200 residents (depending on double-occupancy units), Belmont Village has ample room to grow over the next few years while maintaining a tight-knit, welcoming community from the start.
A staff member explained that moving to Belmont Village now provides several benefits, including the opportunity to join a fresh and enthusiastic community without decades-long relationships that may complicate the process of settling in elsewhere. Everyone will actively collaborate in the cultivation of a new community culture.
The Verdict
For those who can afford the rental cost, Belmont Village offers a compelling and luxurious residential option in San Ramon. Offering similarly upscale and trendy amenities seen in modern Bay Area apartment buildings, it is evident that the principles behind senior living have been successfully adapted to cater to this population, ensuring a dynamic and attractive living environment.
For seniors who require ongoing medical care and support over an extended period, Belmont Village provides an appealing and comprehensive solution. The daily meals, valet service, and cleaning accommodations are likely to entice many seniors to make the move from their aging Bay Area homes, receiving the services they need in a high-end environment.
The friendly and attentive staff at Belmont Village demonstrate a genuine commitment to their senior residents, ensuring they have everything they need for comfort and safety. Although dedicated to preserving seniors' privacy, our encounter with residents during the tour revealed that the staff consistently remember their names and understand their needs.
Some potential challenges may arise for some residents, including the cost, the smaller apartment sizes, and the relinquishing of certain conveniences like a garden or workshop. However, for seniors seeking a luxurious living experience coupled with comprehensive care and support, Belmont Village offers a highly appealing option.
While renowned actor Ted Danson may not be seen wandering the halls of Belmont Village San Ramon, his impeccable style and charm would undoubtedly suit the elegant ambiance of the complex. For seniors who aspire to maintain a life of luxury, Belmont Village presents a wonderful opportunity to do so, ensuring their future care needs can be met within the same facility.
