Exploring Dortmund's Port with Nordstadt Blogger: A Photographic Journey

The North City Bloggers recently organised a fascinating photowalk through the city of Dortmund, taking participants on a journey through the heart of the bustling harbour.

Led by Klaus Hartmann, a resident of the Hafen district and a member of the Nordstadtblogger, the ten-member group started their exploration on the Rhineland Street. As they made their way, they passed by the massive steel rollers, a testament to the area's ongoing industrial use.

One of the highlights of the tour was the visit to the sailing club "Vertrouwen," a historical club formed after the launch of the project "Between Work and Retirement" (ZwAR) following job cuts in the steel industry. The club, still active today, is responsible for the maintenance of their two historical flat-bottomed ships. One of these boats was visible during the tour, with necessary welding work still pending.

The group also had the opportunity to venture into the sailing club's backyard, where they found the club's other boat hidden away. The sun made an appearance, providing beautiful lighting conditions for photography.

As they continued their journey, the participants passed by the Restaurant Nansen and the Home Port. The tour concluded at the Kleingartenanlage Hafenwiese, where a rainbow briefly graced the sky.

Throughout the day, the group discussed the potential uses of vacant lots in Dortmund city, with the "neighboring" area of "Hoesch Spundwand" (HSP) on the Rhineland Street also being a topic of interest. The tour also included photographing graffiti and the scaffolding of the steel hall.

At the end of the day, the participants shared their impressions of the day with each other before parting ways. Photos from the tour can be seen in the gallery under the post and on Flickr (group name: Fotowalk Hafen Dortmund).
