Farmer's Secret: Create Nutrient-Rich Soil at Home for Free

Farmer Nikolai Andreyev, an advocate of sustainable gardening, shares his secret recipes for creating nutrient-rich soil at home, almost for free. He believes homemade soil is the key to a bountiful harvest, offering a natural balance lacking in store mixes.

Andreyev suggests mixing 50% yard soil with 50% compost and adding water for moisture. This blend is perfect for beds, containers, and planting holes. For those with limited compost, he recommends a mix of 50% soil, 25% compost, and 25% peat. To maintain soil health, add organic fertilizer every 2 weeks, ensuring the mix crumbles easily.

To create your own compost, Andreyev advises using a 1x1m bin and adding leaves, kitchen waste, and grass. In 12-18 months, you'll have nutrient-rich compost ready to use. This process not only saves money but also makes your soil alive and nutritious.

Homemade soil, according to Andreyev, is the basis of a productive harvest. By mixing soil with compost and peat, and adding organic fertilizer, gardeners can create a natural balance that store mixes lack. This approach costs nothing compared to store mixes, which can range from $25 to $45 per bed. Andreyev's advice, first shared in the early 20th century, remains relevant today for gardeners seeking a sustainable and cost-effective way to grow healthy plants.
