Festival Kickoff in Munich's Oktoberfest enjoys optimal weather conditions.
The German Weather Service (DWD) has released its long-term forecast for the whole Oktoberfest period, offering some promising signs for visitors planning to attend the iconic event in Munich.
While specific weather forecasts for the second weekend of Oktoberfest 2024 are not yet available, the DWD's typical forecasts from September 2025 suggest mostly sunny and warm conditions. Temperatures are expected to range between 22°C and 28°C, with low precipitation, which may indicate similar weather patterns for late September or early October.
Last year, Oktoberfest saw an average temperature of 12.6°C and only five days with more than eight hours of sunshine. In contrast, the 2023 Oktoberfest was one of the top three warmest since 1879, with an average temperature of 16.9°C and more than eight hours of sunshine per day.
Looking ahead to this year's event, the DWD expects a normal amount of rainfall for the second week, with between 8 and 19 l/m2 of precipitation. Temperatures are anticipated to reach up to 28°C, with an average of 11°C. The weather is expected to be sunny with scattered clouds, and light to moderate wind is forecasted.
The festival grounds will open as early as 9 am, and the DWD predicts 'perfect Oktoberfest weather' on tapping day. However, a jacket or sweater is advised due to the drop in temperature overnight, with temperatures expected to drop to about 10°C.
The rush for seats in the beer tents is expected to begin, and the first week of Oktoberfest is predicted to be drier than the average of recent years, with between 7 and 20 l/m2 of precipitation. The first week's average temperature is expected to be around 12°C, similar to recent years.
The DWD does not provide specific forecasts for temperatures and precipitation for individual days during the Oktoberfest period beyond the first and second weeks. Nevertheless, visitors can look forward to a sunny and mostly warm Oktoberfest experience, with the festival tapped again at 12 pm on Saturday.
