Switchin' Up: The Top 5 Family Cars with Less than Seven Seats

Five spots available for a full family

Need a ride for the fam but don't fancy a minibus? No worries, we've got you covered with some fantastic five-seaters that'll leave you wanting more. Check out these five exciting options - some budget-friendly, eco-friendly, compact, and downright comfortable.

Hyundai Santa Fe - The Giants among the Giant

This Korean crossover has grown up big in its fifth generation. It stands tall at 4.83 meters, thanks to its bold, angular body and vertical side walls. It's not just a looker, either, as it offers ample space for luggage (up to 2 cubic meters) and passengers, with room for five, six, or seven depending on your needs. Forget about cramped legroom, as the second row slides lengthwise for extra comfort.

Hyundai has gone green, offering hybrids in both full and plug-in versions. The base model with front-wheel drive, 158 kW/215 PS, and automatic transmission is available for 60,750 euros as a seven-seater.

Dacia Jogger - Affordable Family Joyride

The Dacia Jogger can seat seven at a cost under 19,000 euros - that's one heck of a deal for a large family! To be fair, it's based on the Clio compact car, so space is a bit tighter in the rear. But, it's perfect for the occasional sports day or for less rambunctious kiddos. For additional cash (2,000 euros), you can upgrade to the "Extreme" model with plenty of equipment and a catchier appearance.

The interior is easy on the eyes now, with a straightforward and user-friendly design. There may be some sacrifices in safety equipment and crash performance, but hey, you can't have it all for this price!

Power options include petrol engines with three and four cylinders, as well as an autogas variant to cut down on costs.

Opel Frontera - Short and Stacked

Seven seats in a compact SUV? You bet! Opel introduced a third row in the 4.39-meter-long Frontera, which slots between the compact and midsize classes. The back rows are a bit snug, but the first five seats promise plenty of room. Fold down the third row, and you've got almost endless cargo space.

The interior looks modern and fresh, with a minimalist approach. Don't worry; it's not just about saving pennies, as the new Frontera powertrain packs a lively mild-hybrid petrol engine. Prices start at just under 25,000 euros.

Mazda CX-80 - Live Large in Luxury

The CX-80 is the big brother to the mid-size SUV CX-60, boasting a more robust design with an additional 25 centimeters in length and a third row of seats. The interior is a sight for sore eyes, with elegant design, fine craftsmanship, and premium materials that will leave you feeling like royalty.

Mazda delivers with powerful engine options, such as their flagship model with a six-cylinder engine, available as either diesel or plug-in hybrid. But, the prices reflect the luxury, starting at 56,200 euros for the "Exclusive Line" model. To truly roll in style, consider the "Homura" variant, priced around 63,000 euros.

Maxus Mifa 9 - Electric Elegance

Got your eyes on a plush, chauffeur-driven vehicle for you and your family? Look no further than the Maxus Mifa from China. It's not only for the executive set, as it offers standard footrests, massage, and cooling functions in the second-row seats. Headroom is a bit tight in the third row, but the overall indulgent atmosphere still applies.

The Maxus Mifa is 100% electric, with 180 kW/245 PS of power and an approximately 440-kilometer range. Base models cost 70,000 euros, while the "Luxury" model comes in at 76,000 euros. The Maxus vies for supremacy in a league where few Chinese models currently compete in the domestic market.
