FKS Raids 53 Salons, Finds Illegal Immigrants and Wage Fraud
On May 14, 2024, the Financial Control Schwarzarbeit (FKS) of the Main Customs Office Augsburg conducted inspections in 53 hairdressing and cosmetics salons, nail studios, and barbershops. A total of 121 employees were checked by 56 officers to ensure compliance with social security obligations and minimum wage payment.
The inspections revealed several violations. Four illegally staying Vietnamese nationals were found in two nail studios, and one person was discovered in a hairdressing salon. The FKS initiated five criminal proceedings for illegal residence and social security fraud, and four administrative fine proceedings.
In one case, a warning fine was issued for failing to keep records of working hours. Employers were also targeted, with criminal proceedings initiated against them for aiding and abetting illegal residence. These actions follow a busy year for the FKS in 2023, during which they conducted 1,014 inspections, initiated 2,813 criminal proceedings, and completed 2,740. They also handled 815 administrative offence proceedings, with a total damage sum of 19.2 million EUR.
The FKS of the Main Customs Office Augsburg continues to actively monitor and enforce compliance with labour laws and social security obligations in the hairdressing and cosmetics industry. Their efforts in 2024 have already led to several investigations and penalties, demonstrating their commitment to maintaining fair and legal work practices.
