In the picturesque towns of Darmstadt and Griesheim, two unique initiatives have been launched to address different yet interconnected issues: the control of invasive plant species and the reduction of children's fear of doctors.

In Griesheim, six donkeys have been moved to the forest area west of Grießheimer Bolzplatz last week. Their main purpose is to take care of the overgrowing land cress in the Griesheimer Stadtwald. Donkeys, known for their grazing activity, help reduce the density and spread of this understory vegetation. This grazing can limit competition for resources like light, water, and nutrients, potentially benefiting tree seedlings and adult trees by allowing better growth conditions and reducing fire fuel loads.

Meanwhile, in Darmstadt, the "Teddy Hospital" at the Clinic offers fun activities for children involving syringes, bandages, and plasters for teddy bears and other cuddly toys. The "Teddy Hospital" is designed to be enjoyable for both children and medical students, aiming to help reduce children's fear of doctors.

The Griesheimer Stadtwald is facing issues with heat periods and the spread of the emerald ash borer, causing tree deaths and increased sunlight on the forest floor. This increased sunlight has led to the spread of land cress, which is taking away light from small plants that will later become trees or shrubs. The city administration has taken measures to increase security in response to the vandalism, and the Landscape Maintenance Yard Stürz can be contacted at 0160 / 99 65 69 94 in case of emergencies.

Interestingly, a trailer with play equipment for traffic education has been made available for elementary schools and kindergartens in Weiterstadt. The provision of the trailer was made possible by an engaged resident and a nationwide action. However, vandalism on a playground in Weiterstadt has caused problems for other playgrounds in the city.

These initiatives highlight the innovative and collaborative efforts being made to address environmental concerns and children's health in the region. While the specific impact of donkeys in Griesheim forests is not yet extensively documented, their role in controlling invasive vegetation aligns with general ecological and forest management principles. Similarly, the "Teddy Hospital" aims to create a friendly and engaging environment for children to learn about medical procedures, helping to alleviate their fear of doctors.

In the realm of home-and-garden, the donkeys' grazing in the Griesheimer Stadtwald could potentially influence the lifestyle of local flora, as their control of overgrowing land cress might provide better growth conditions for other plants, such as tree seedlings. On the other hand, in the field of environmental-science, the "Teddy Hospital" in Darmstadt contributes to the improvement of children's understanding of medical procedures, thus contributing to the broader goal of reducing their fear of doctors.
