Göttingen Launches Rainbow Bus to Promote Diversity and Inclusion
Göttingen has launched a new initiative to promote diversity and inclusion. The city's public transport company, Göttinger Verkehrsbetriebe GmbH (GöVB), has introduced a rainbow-designed bus, dubbed the 'rainbow bus'. The city's Mayor Petra Broistedt and GöVB Managing Director Michael Neugebauer presented the bus together on August 26, 2025.
The rainbow bus is a symbol of the city's commitment to welcoming everyone, regardless of their background or beliefs. It will be a daily presence in Göttingen's bus network, reaching thousands of people each day. The initiative is part of the city's and GöVB's signing of the 'Charta der Vielfalt', a Diversity Charter that promotes diversity, tolerance, and a prejudice-free work environment. This commitment was echoed in the city council of Magdeburg's decision to sign the charter earlier this year.
GöVB's workforce of 470 employees, hailing from over 20 nations, is a testament to the company's dedication to diversity. The rainbow bus further emphasizes this commitment, with its vibrant design serving as a visual reminder of the city's and GöVB's inclusive values.
The rainbow bus, a joint effort by the city of Göttingen and GöVB, is more than just a mode of transport. It is a powerful symbol of unity, diversity, and inclusion. With its daily presence in the city's bus network, it serves as a constant reminder of the city's and GöVB's commitment to promoting a welcoming and prejudice-free environment for all.
