Gütersloh Folklore Group Celebrates its 50th Anniversary

In the heart of Gütersloh, the Folklore Circle Gütersloh continues to be a beacon of cultural preservation and international understanding. Established 50 years ago, this vibrant group has grown from a youth organisation into a staple of Gütersloh's association life.

Every Tuesday evening, from 7:15 PM to 9 PM, the Folklore Circle Gütersloh gathers at the Forum of the Carl-Miele-Berufskolleg Gütersloh, Wilh.-Wolf-Str./corner Wiesenstraße. Here, members practice traditional dances, music, and other cultural expressions from Westphalia and other German settlement areas.

This year, the Folklore Circle Gütersloh organised a festive event to commemorate Gütersloh's 200th anniversary of city rights. The highlight of the festival was a grand ball in the large hall of the Stuwe-Weißenberg dance school, attended by over 200 guests. The ball featured dance pairs of various ages, with the oldest being 85 years old, demonstrating the timeless appeal of the Folklore Circle's activities.

The festival was a celebration of diversity, with nine groups from seven countries participating. Over 160 performers, including dancers, musicians, alphorn players, and flag swingers, showcased their talents in a series of impressive performances. The unique events included an alphorn concert and folk dance at the altar, adding a touch of authenticity to the festivities.

The Folklore Circle Gütersloh's mission is not only to preserve cultural traditions but also to build bridges between people and cultures. This was evident in the public ecumenical service held at the Apostelkirche during the festival, as well as in the warm atmosphere of the ball, where people of all ages danced and made music together.

The Folklore Circle Gütersloh has travelled both within and outside Germany, spreading the joy of cultural exchange and fostering a sense of unity. For more information about joining this lively group, call 05205 / 70987.

As the Folklore Circle Gütersloh continues to grow and evolve, it remains a testament to the power of culture and community in fostering peace and understanding. Whether you're a seasoned dancer or a curious newcomer, the Folklore Circle Gütersloh welcomes all to join in the celebration of cultural traditions.
