Hillside Pedestrian Area: Details and Engagement Opportunities

The city of Aachen is excited to announce the development of a new pedestrian zone in the Buchel area. This project, which includes the creation of a city center park, new buildings, and the House of Curiosity, is set to revolutionize the way Aachener residents and tourists experience the old town.

The pedestrian zone, initially covering Ursulinerstraße, Buchkremerstraße, Buchel, Nikolausstraße, Kleinkölnstraße, and Minoritenstraße, will soon expand to include Mefferdatisstraße, Komphausbadstraße, and the Bädersteig in connection with the future House of Curiosity.

Residents and business owners are encouraged to participate in the citizen engagement process, which will begin during the European Mobility Week from September 16 to 22. All information about the Buchel pedestrian zone can be found on the city's website at www.unsere-website.de/verkehrskonzept_buechel.

The city administration has organised information events and has set up a mailbox in the foyer of the administrative building at Marschiertor, Lagerhausstraße 20, for residents to submit their ideas and comments. You can also send your suggestions, questions, and messages regarding the Buchel pedestrian zone to [email protected].

An information event on the topic will be held at the future House of Curiosity on September 16, starting at 6:30 pm. Additionally, the Mobility Committee has tasked the administration to initiate citizen participation for the pedestrian zone around the Buchel, and the European Mobility Week events in Aachen will include information sessions about the planned pedestrian zone around the Buchel on September 16 and 18.

Delivery and loading will remain possible in the area of the new pedestrian zone for businesses and residents. Residents can access their parking spaces in private underground garages and on private parking spaces at any time. The plans for the pedestrian zone will be displayed in the foyer of the administrative building at Marschiertor from September 16 to October 13.

Aachen Cathedral, a UNESCO World Heritage site, offers high-quality leisure activities and is a must-visit for both locals and tourists. The European Mobility Week 2025 events calendar can be found at www.ourwebsitebewegt.de/calendar. For press releases, an RSS feed is available on the city of Aachen's website.

Stay tuned for more updates on this exciting project!
