Lousy Farm, Patrick Bronte's Former Residence, Up for Auction

Lousy Farm, a Grade II-listed property once called home by Patrick Bronte, the father of the famous Bronte sisters, is up for sale. The auction, scheduled for February 5 via Auction House West Yorkshire, comes with a guide price of £380,000.

Located near Liversedge, West Yorkshire, Lousy Farm, also known as Lousy Thorn Farm and Thornbush Farm, has a rich history. Patrick Bronte lived there from 1811 to an unknown date, and it is where he and his wife Maria Branwell spent their married life.

The farmhouse, which requires a significant amount of restoration, has shown signs of work that has begun. However, buyers will need to do their own due diligence to determine the extent of the restoration work and what additional work may be required.

While plans for turning Lousy Farm into a Bronte-themed visitor center were reportedly lodged a couple of years ago, there is currently no publicly documented information available about the progress or status of these plans.

Lousy Farm is not the only significant location in the Bronte family's history. A terraced house in nearby Hightown, though not the same as Lousy Farm, is where Patrick and Maria Bronte might have stayed for a few months. This house, which has a plaque celebrating the birth of the first two Bronte sisters, Maria and Elizabeth, both of whom sadly died before reaching their teens, is a significant part of the family's history.

The sale of Lousy Farm is expected to generate interest due to the Bronte family's literary fame. Toby Keel, the Digital Director of the platform, has been writing about property, cars, lifestyle, travel, and nature, and will likely provide updates on the auction and the farm's future.

The sale price includes the buildings and almost eight acres of land. For more details about the auction, visit the Auction House West Yorkshire website.
