Unveiling the New Kunstpalast: A Transformative Art Experience

Construction may be still in progress, but the Kunstpalast's tantalizing facade can no longer be hidden for long. By November 2023, the extensive restoration work will be complete.

With each passing day, an engaging roster of exhibitions - from the creative brilliance of Christo to the captivating energy of Mehr Licht and Refik Anadol - has drawn record-breaking crowds to the museum, even during the closure of its collection wing. This year alone, the Kunstpalast has welcomed a staggering 200,000 visitors.

Prepare to be enthralled once more, as a new collection tour opens its doors from November 21. This tour will take visitors on a journey through the museum, showcasing approximately 800 works out of the Kunstpalast's expansive 130,000-piece collection that spans all periods and genres. The chronological tour will not only feature the established names of the collection but also introduce lesser-known pieces, some of which have never been exhibited before. To spark the curiosity of young minds, the museum will unveil hidden chambers, newly created art spaces designed exclusively for them.

General Director Felix Krämer envisions the new Kunstpalast as a sanctuary for artists and art enthusiasts alike. "We aspire to create an inviting space where people from all walks of life can feel comfortable and discover something new," he says. "Whether you're a frequent museum-goer or a first-time visitor, we extend a warm welcome to everyone."

As part of this reopening, the house will also introduce a Kunstpalast app developed in collaboration with digital partner ERGO, designed to enhance visitors' museum experience. A vibrant inner courtyard with coffee shops and eateries will further transform the Kunstpalast into a cultural hub for the city of Düsseldorf.

To celebrate its grand reopening, the Kunstpalast will offer free admission from November 21 to 26. On November 26, the museum will host a spectacular opening celebration, filled with family-friendly activities that everyone can enjoy.

Although specific details about the new collection tour or its highlights are yet to be revealed, one thing is for certain - the Kunstpalast is poised to capture the hearts and minds of its visitors once again.
