Head Gardener Wanted at World's Best Restaurant: Noma in Copenhagen

Noma, the three-Michelin-star restaurant in Copenhagen known for its innovative Nordic cuisine, is seeking a head gardener to join their team. According to the restaurant's website, the role is described as 'crucial' and applications can be submitted via the website by uploading a CV.

The successful candidate will work closely with renowned chef René Redzepi, who focuses on foraging and re-interpretation of Nordic cuisine. The head gardener will be responsible for creating dishes and decorations using the edible and ornamental plants in Noma's garden, which was planted by Swedish landscape architect Mette Lange.

The garden at Noma also includes greenhouses and is regularly visited by Piet Oudolf, a renowned plantsperson who has planted the garden. Oudolf discusses changes and progressions with the head gardener each year, as detailed in the book "Piet Oudolf at Work" by James Corner and Noel Kingsbury.

The role is not for a sous-chef but as head gardener at Noma. The position is competitive, with the restaurant planning pop-ups throughout the world, including one in London. Noma won the first place on the World's Best Restaurant List in 2021.

The head gardener will work with several different groups of employees, including the test kitchen, chefs, waiters, farmers, and suppliers. The salary for the role is negotiable and dependent on experience.

The garden at Noma contains both edible and ornamental plants, and the head gardener is expected to have diverse experience in gardening. There is an opportunity to share information about great jobs in horticulture on Instagram.

In addition to the garden, Noma also plans to become a test kitchen in 2025, with a focus on developing experimental dishes. The head gardener will play a key role in this transition, using their knowledge and creativity to help create innovative dishes using the ingredients grown in the garden.

If you are passionate about gardening and have a love for food, this could be the perfect opportunity for you. Apply now to become the head gardener at Noma and join one of the world's most innovative restaurants.
