Local businesses in County Herford that cater to families.
On September 10, 2025, the "Family-Friendly Company 2025" awards were presented in Herford, Germany, recognising companies that support their employees through family-friendly personnel policies. A total of 48 companies were honoured for their commitment to balancing family, care, and work.
The award ceremony took place at the Herford County Hall, with Landrat Jürgen Müller and Björn Böker, Managing Director of OstWestfalenLippe GmbH, presenting the certificates. Among the awardees were DTS Systeme GmbH, who reapplied for the award, and newcomers such as Gemeinde Kirchlengern, Kortemeier Brokmann Landschaftsarchitekten GmbH, Brax Leineweber GmbH & Co. KG, Terra Connect GmbH, ProElectrify AG, EANCON GmbH & Co. KG, BUDICH Gruppe, Sparkasse Herford, Kreiskliniken Herford-Bünde AoR, Westfalen Weser Energie GmbH & Co. KG, Kreispolizeibehörde Herford, Volksbank in Ostwestfalen, GARDINIA Home Decor GmbH, and MIT Moderne Industrietechnik GmbH & Co. KG.
The awarding process included written applications, online presentations, company visits, and a nine-member jury decision. Care guides were particularly noteworthy this year and convinced the jury. Notable support measures among the honourees included home office, flexible working hours, subsidies for childcare, family summer festivals, company vehicles, cargo bikes, and free tickets for concerts or sporting events.
In 2015, only 9 companies submitted their documents for the "Family-Friendly Company" award. This year, the number increased to 51, showcasing a growing awareness and commitment to family-friendly policies among businesses in the region. Bauformat Küchen GmbH & Co. KG was one of the companies that joined the ranks of the honourees this year.
The "Family-Friendly Company 2025" award is presented by OstWestfalenLippe GmbH within the framework of the state program "Competence Center Woman and Work OWL", in cooperation with the Herford District, the Industry and Commerce Chamber Ostwestfalen to Bielefeld, the Chamber of Crafts Ostwestfalen-Lippe to Bielefeld, and the Intermunicipal Economic Development in the Herford District. The award recognises companies that prioritise a family-friendly work environment, fostering a better balance between work and family life for their employees.
