Luxury fashion brand, LOEWE, Establishes a Gallery-esque Retail Space in Short Hills
LOEWE, the renowned Spanish luxury fashion house, has opened a new 262-square-meter boutique at The Mall at Short Hills in Millburn, New Jersey. The boutique, designed as a gallery-like store, seamlessly integrates art and craftsmanship with retail, creating an immersive shopping experience for its customers.
The exterior of the boutique is adorned with blue ceramic tiles, catching the light and drawing the eye. Inside, a mosaic of green and blue tiles, veined marble, and warm wood create a refined, tactile environment. The design concept draws inspiration from LOEWE’s CASA LOEWE stores by treating product displays as artistic installations.
Vintage and custom furniture pieces, such as Utrecht armchairs and George Nakashima’s conoid cushion chairs, are paired with burnt-wood podiums and iron martini tables to create a curated spatial dialogue. Large tapestries by British textile artist John Allen, including Peveril of the Peak, Tin Mine, and Seven Sisters, hang overhead, echoing the tile patterns on the floor.
The art collection in the LOEWE boutique includes various pieces from different artists, such as Paul Thek's Etchings (1985) and Kate Newby's Some day I want to just have a room full (2019). These contemporary artworks underscore the brand’s deep engagement with artisanal craft, further enhancing the gallery-like atmosphere.
Shoppers can move from a puzzle bag to a kiln-fired ceramic without changing stride, as the boutique offers men's and women's ready-to-wear, bags, shoes, small leather goods, eyewear, and accessories. Hylton Nel's Calitzdorp (2007) and Hafu Matsumoto's Leather Basket 5 (2024) are among the artworks on display, while Annie Turner's porcelain Drift Net (White) (2024) adds a touch of contemporary art to the product displays.
The LOEWE boutique at The Mall at Short Hills functions as a private gallery, stitched to a wardrobe. Located on the upper level of the mall, it offers a unique shopping experience that combines art, fashion, and craftsmanship, making it a must-visit destination for fashion enthusiasts and art lovers alike.
The refined interior of the LOEWE boutique, with its mosaic of green and blue tiles, veined marble, and warm wood, creates a setting not just for shopping, but for immersing oneself in the realms of both fashion-and-beauty and home-and-garden. The careful curation of contemporary artworks, including pieces like Hafu Matsumoto's Leather Basket 5 and Annie Turner's porcelain Drift Net (White), further enhances this lifestyle atmosphere.
