Magdeburg's Salbke Gets 'Minecraft'-Inspired Playground by Year's End
A new math playground is taking shape in Magdeburg's Salbke district. The €498,000 project, themed around 'Blocks' and inspired by 'Minecraft', is expected to be completed by the end of the year. It aims to foster social cohesion, with the motto 'Designing neighborhood life together'.
Construction has started on Gröninger Straße, replacing an old play area dismantled for tram loop infrastructure. The math playground will span around 1,500 m², including an adjacent ball court. It will feature a large sand play area for children aged 6 to 12, complete with a cube tower structure and climbing elements. Younger children, up to the age of 5, will have their own sand play area. The overall facility will offer resting spots, seating, bicycle parking, and waste bins. The greening process will involve planting high-stem trees, solitary shrubs, and creating new lawn areas.
The project is funded by the Allianz Foundation, with the aim of promoting social cohesion in the neighborhood. It is expected to cost approximately €498,000 and is scheduled for completion by the end of the year.
The new math playground in Salbke is set to provide a safe and engaging space for children of all ages. With its unique theme and extensive facilities, it is hoped that it will bring the community together and enhance neighborhood life.
