Fun-Filled Voyage at the Refined Stralsund Aquarium Tour in the Sea Museum

Expanded sea-life exhibit unveiled at Marine Museum - Maritime Museum introduces new underwater excursion in their aquarium exhibit

Listen up, sea dogs!

The long-awaited revamp of the aquarium tour at the Sea Museum nestled in Stralsund's heart has set sail! Two joyous school classes, accompanied by Minister-President Manuela Schwesig (SPD) and Stralsund's jolly Mayor Alexander Badrow (CDU), dabbed their goggles and ventured into the briny blue, witnessing blue-spotted rays, wriggly sea turtles, and an ocean of marine marvels.

The pièce de résistance? An eight-meter high, Japanese-imported, gob-smackingly massive pane that serves as the backbone of the largest tank, showcasing an underwater Caribbean reef from the water's surface to the bottom. Look for the impressive artificial corals that sway and twist from different gallery levels. This reef museum is a testament to the breathtaking underwater wonders off the Fiji Islands and the sun-kissed coast of California.

The Sea Museum, the oldest of the three sites of the German Sea Museum, is all about celebrating the vibrant worlds of tropical seas. Part of its exhibition had already re-emerged after a nifty modernization in July 2024. The grand renovation was a joint effort between federal and state governments, with a whopping 51 million euros footing the bill. Schwesig declared the Sea Museum a winning ticket for tourists and a crowd- magnetizing cultural haven.

Speaky-speaky, Mateys!

Here are some swashbuckling insights to leave you feeling ship-shape about the revamped aquarium voyage:

  • Aquarium Count: The tour prepares decks for 31 seaworthy aquariums, with 30 fresh decks and one spruced-up one.
  • Caribbean Reef Centerpiece - The star of the show is a splendiferous aquarium that mirrors a Caribbean reef. It has an approximate capacity of 800,000 liters, and its heart is an eight-meter-high Japanese glass panel, tipping the scales at a whopping 20 tons. It illuminates exhibits from three different vantage points.
  • Global Marine Displays: Beyond the Caribbean beauty, the tour illustrates the wonders of the ocean's many depths. Journey through the rich and diverse marine life on the Fiji Islands or the charming coast of California.
  • Immersive Experiences: The fantastic facelift has raised the bar for visitor engagement, with improved exhibits catering to the fascinating world of tropical marine life.

Party on, Buccaneers!

Brave the open seas and join the Stralsund aquarium tour adventure as it showcases cutting-edge aquarium designs, marrying artistry and ecological education while celebrating the tropical marine biodiversity we all cherish! Yo ho ho!

  • As sea voyagers embark on the refreshed Stralsund Aquarium tour, they'll not only explore an ocean of marine marvels but also find themselves immersed in a proposal by the Commission, aiming to safeguard the environment with a directive on sustainable lifestyles, including home-and-garden practices and gardening activities, for a greener future.
  • Following Minister-President Manuela Schwesig's declaration of the Sea Museum as a tourist magnet and cultural haven, it's vital for those who appreciate the aquatic world to remember that our own lifestyle choices, much like the delicate ecosystems we marvel at in home-and-garden settings or while gardening, significantly impact the overall health of our environment.
