Microsoft's AI-driven chatbot: A comprehensive guide

Microsoft's AI companion, Copilot, is set to receive significant updates and improvements this year, aiming to enhance autonomy, customization, security, and integration across enterprise workflows.

The latest version of Copilot will leverage GPT-5, OpenAI's newest generative AI model, to handle complex business logic and multi-turn reasoning, improving intelligence and responsiveness. This upgrade will also expand creation capabilities, including the ability to generate images and write drafts.

Copilot, designed to help with various tasks including everyday admin chores and coding projects, will now offer enhanced reasoning, faster responses to complex questions, and a more modern design with smoother navigation.

The free and paid versions of Copilot will be available. While the specifics of the cost and features for each version were not specified, it is known that Microsoft Copilot Pro offers deep research, comprehensive reports, and the ability to use the AI on multiple devices at once.

To use Microsoft 365 Copilot, a qualifying Microsoft 365 plan is required. The AI is specifically designed to work with Microsoft 365 applications like Word and PowerPoint.

In addition to these improvements, Microsoft has plans to include specialist AI agents like Researcher and Analyst to further improve Copilot's reasoning capabilities. The specific details about the capabilities of these agents were not provided.

Microsoft also plans to expand Copilot's accessibility and business use cases by allowing the ability to publish custom AI agents to WhatsApp numbers and SharePoint sites. The AI will also respect Microsoft Information Protection (MIP) labels with integration to Microsoft Purview, ensuring secure, compliant AI interactions across connectors and Teams.

Furthermore, Copilot Studio agents will be able to autonomously chain tenant-specific Power Automate flows and actions to fulfill user requests, prompting for additional info if needed. This will enable more autonomous workflows.

Copilot will also get new intelligent features in Microsoft 365 Copilot, such as meeting recaps that include content shared on screens for comprehensive summaries. The AI will also be able to answer questions about open Copilot Pages and assist meeting management, note-taking, time keeping, and surfacing relevant info during meetings.

These enhancements reflect Microsoft’s vision of empowering users and organizations to build smarter, securely governed AI agents that deeply integrate into enterprise ecosystems, enabling more autonomous workflows and richer user experiences across multiple communication and collaboration platforms.
