New Murals Vibrantly Enhance Al Quoz Creative Zone, Courtesy of Dubai Culture
In the heart of Dubai, a creative revolution is underway. Dubai Culture, the city's dedicated authority for culture and arts, has launched the Dubai Public Art Strategy, a groundbreaking initiative that aims to transform Dubai's public spaces into a vibrant, open-air art gallery.
This strategic move positions Dubai as a global hub for creativity and culture, fostering an environment where public art enhances community engagement, encourages creative expression, and elevates the city's cultural profile internationally. A prime example of this approach can be seen in the Al Quoz Creative Zone, where striking murals by notable artists, including three female creators, have breathed new life into previously ordinary urban spaces, turning them into dynamic cultural landmarks.
One such mural, titled "Vibrant Voices of Al Quoz," painted on the facade of Aramtec, showcases traditional regional elements like spice stalls, coffee pots, arches, and domes. Created by Egyptian artist Rabab Tantawy, this mural is a celebration of the area's cultural richness. Another mural, titled "Wonder Windows," a collaboration between Emirati artist Hend Al Murid and Syrian muralist Dina Saadi, can be found on the front of the children's museum WooHoo. "Wonder Windows" incorporates symbols like the Hudhud bird, Emirati motifs, and playful elements tied to childhood imagination.
Mozah Lootah, Project Manager for the Dubai Public Art Strategy, believes these murals contribute significantly to tourism. She notes that they offer public spaces that reflect the UAE's heritage and innovation, attracting both residents and visitors to engage with Dubai’s evolving artistic scene. Shaima Rashid Al Suwaidi, CEO of the Arts, Design & Literature Sector at Dubai Culture, supports this growth of Dubai's creative community through the public art initiative.
The Dubai Public Art Strategy, with its focus on integrating public art projects like the Al Quoz murals, is helping position Dubai as an innovative cultural destination where creativity thrives visibly and accessibly. This reinforces Dubai's ambition as a leading global creative city, one where vibrant voices like those of Rabab Tantawy, Hend Al Murid, and Dina Saadi can be heard, and where art is not just a spectacle, but a part of everyday life.
- The Dubai Public Art Strategy, through the creation of murals like "Vibrant Voices of Al Quoz" and "Wonder Windows," fosters an innovative cultural environment in Dubai that encourages creative expression and enhances community engagement, thereby making art a part of the city's lifestyle and home-and-garden aesthetics.
