Nibs Cacao Company Celebrates a Decade and a Half in Dresden
In the heart of Dresden's Neustadt district lies **Nibs Cacao**, a charming café that has been a cherished part of the community for twelve years. Located at Kamenzer Straße 42, Nibs Cacao is open daily from 14:00 to 19:00, offering visitors an inviting atmosphere and a delightful selection of treats.
Beyond its culinary offerings, Nibs Cacao is more than just a café. It serves as a meeting point for the Spanish-speaking community and a hub for cultural events. Concerts, Colombian art exhibitions, music events, and even spontaneous parties are common occurrences at Nibs Cacao.
The café's story begins with its founder, Mercedes Moraiz, a native Argentinian who has been living in Neustadt for about thirty years. The idea for Nibs originated from Mercedes' daughter, who told her about a small chocolate café in Berlin. Inspired, Mercedes took over the concept and initially commuted every weekend from Dresden to Berlin to learn the trade.
Nibs Cacao's interior, once a hairdressing salon, has been lovingly furnished to create a warm and inviting space. A child-friendly character is evident, with a small play corner for the little ones. The café's name, "Nibs," stands for fine chocolate shavings, reflecting its dedication to quality chocolate products.
The café's menu boasts a variety of tasty treats, including *churros*, a typically Spanish delicacy that resembles a long doughnut and is fried in hot oil. Along with churros, Nibs offers various desserts such as chocolate tart, marzipan cocoa, and mint chocolate. Pau-Pau ice cream, a popular local or artisanal brand, is also available.
Nibs Cacao's reputation extends to its commitment to community engagement. The Asociación Cultural Iberoamericana meets regularly at Nibs, and Mercedes organizes events with great dedication. A giant dried cocoa fruit on display at Nibs serves as an educational tool for school classes, teaching them about the cultivation and history of cocoa.
During the Corona pandemic, the landlord of Nibs Cacao only charged ancillary costs, demonstrating support for the café amidst challenging times. Despite the strongly increased prices for coffee and cocoa, Nibs Cacao continues to thrive, offering visitors a unique and memorable experience in Dresden's vibrant Neustadt district.
At Nibs Cacao, patrons can enjoy a harmonious blend of food-and-drink, lifestyle, home-and-garden, and entertainment as the café serves as a meeting point for the Spanish-speaking community and a hub for cultural events, featuring concerts, art exhibitions, and spontaneous parties. Beyond its delicious treats such as churros and various desserts, the café also educates visitors about the cultivation and history of cocoa through a giant dried cocoa fruit on display.
