"Open-air Dancers Prohibited": Unexpected Ban on Public Dance Performances

In a surprising turn of events, the popular open-air Salsa courses held at the Apollo roundabout in Düsseldorf have been temporarily banned due to a missing permit, contrary to organizer Michael Powalla's initial claims. However, a resolution has been reached, and the Salsa scene has been granted a "special use permit" to continue the courses.

The Salsa scene, which sees itself as a lived community, has been a beloved meeting point for people of all ages and origins for years. Hundreds of people regularly participate in these courses, turning the Apollo roundabout into a vibrant dance floor every Friday, Saturday, and Sunday.

The organizers ensure that the place is left in pristine condition after the event, making it a considerate addition to the city's landscape. Passers-by are often invited to join the Salsa courses and are warmly welcomed, contributing to the inclusive and welcoming atmosphere of the event.

City spokesman Nils Mertens stated that the reason for the intervention was a noise complaint, but it could not be ignored regardless of the event's popularity. Organizer Powalla, however, believes the Salsa sessions do not constitute noise pollution, especially not compared to the Rhine carnival.

The application process for the special use permit will be expedited to allow the course to start as soon as possible. The Salsa scene serves as a significant part of the city's cultural fabric and is seen as a symbol of integration.

The Salsa courses were previously held at the state parliament, but had to move to the Apollo roundabout two years ago due to increased security requirements. Despite the temporary ban, the organizers remain optimistic about the future of the Salsa scene in Düsseldorf.

The Salsa ban at the Apollo in Düsseldorf has undoubtedly caused a stir among the city's dance enthusiasts. However, with the special use permit now in place, the Salsa courses are set to resume their regular schedule every two weeks at the Apollo Rondell, offering a rhythmic haven for dancers and onlookers alike.

The Salsa scene, with its home-and-garden expansiveness and thriving lifestyle, has often served as a hub for social media sharing, capturing the city's vibrant energy and diverse community. Even as the dance courses found a new home at the Apollo roundabout, the tantalizing rhythm of Salsa has lingered in the air, becoming a distinct element of the city's entertainment scene.
