OpenAI Unveils Global AI Expansion With Strategic Partnerships

OpenAI has announced a series of strategic partnerships and projects aimed at expanding AI infrastructure globally. The company, led by CEO Sam Altman, has committed to significant investments and collaborations with tech giants and governments alike.

OpenAI has joined forces with NVIDIA to provide at least 10 gigawatts of AI computing power over NVIDIA systems, backed by up to $100 billion in investments. This partnership, along with Microsoft's nearly $14 billion investment securing exclusive Azure cloud services for OpenAI's model training, will kickstart one of the largest AI data center networks starting in late 2026.

In a joint venture called Stargate, OpenAI, SoftBank, and Oracle aim to expand computing infrastructure for AI development and delivery. This project has received pledges totaling over £31 billion from OpenAI, Microsoft, NVIDIA, Google, Salesforce, and CoreWeave during a US-UK state visit in 2025.

Altman's recent visit to Seoul saw him meet with South Korean President Lee Jae Myung and corporate leaders to announce these partnerships. Samsung Electronics and SK Hynix will accelerate production of advanced chips to meet OpenAI's increasing memory demands for Stargate. OpenAI has also reached agreements with SK Telecom to explore building an AI data center in South Korea, dubbed 'Stargate Korea'.

OpenAI plans to build six AI data centers across the United States, including two more in Texas, one in New Mexico, one in Ohio, and another in an undisclosed Midwest location. President Lee Jae Myung hailed these partnerships as a major opportunity for South Korea's semiconductor industry to solidify its role in AI and create more jobs. OpenAI has also partnered with other Samsung affiliates to collaborate on data center technologies and potentially expand local capacity. Together, OpenAI, Samsung, and SK have partnered to provide chips and solutions for the $500 billion Stargate AI infrastructure project. Samsung has committed to developing floating data centers with OpenAI and its affiliates.

OpenAI's strategic partnerships and investments in AI infrastructure projects signal a significant boost for the global AI ecosystem. These collaborations, spanning from the United States to South Korea, demonstrate a collective effort to advance AI development and delivery, creating new opportunities and jobs along the way.
