Organic gardening suggestions from Yeo Valley: 5 top strategies revealed

The Yeo Valley Organic Garden Festival, taking place in Somerset from September 18th to 20th, promises a weekend filled with gardening insights and advice from some of the industry's leading voices.

Gardeners of all levels are in for a treat, as the festival features talks, panels, and workshops from inspiring gardening personalities. Among them is Arit Anderson, a garden designer and BBC presenter, who will discuss creating future-friendly gardens that work with nature, not against it.

Frances Tophill, a Gardeners' World favourite, will also be present, advocating for a loose, playful approach to gardening on September 19th. Charles Dowding, the UK's no-dig gardening guru, will close the festival with tips for soil-friendly growing without lifting a spade.

The festival's themed sessions on September 19th, under the banner of 'People & Pollinators', include two sessions: one by Dr Daniel Robert & Dr Heather Whitney on the science of pollination, and another by Georgie Newbery on growing pollinator-friendly cut flowers at home.

The festival will also delve into the topic of biodiversity and climate change, with Arit Anderson's talk focusing on these aspects. RHS Gold Medallist Tom Massey will share smart, sustainable ideas from his latest book RHS Waterwise Garden on the festival's third day.

In addition to these talks, the festival will offer practical tips for organic gardening. While the exact top tips presented at the festival are yet to be published, common themes at organic garden festivals suggest that they might include using organic compost and natural soil conditioners, encouraging biodiversity by planting native plants and flowers, avoiding chemical pesticides and synthetic fertilizers, practicing crop rotation and companion planting, saving seeds and using organic-certified seeds, implementing water-saving techniques, and focusing on sustainable container gardening and cost-effective methods.

More specific advice, such as watering butts or troughs near thirsty spots, watering plants early or late when it's cool, and mulching with compost or bark to conserve water, will be provided by the team from Garden Organic at their 'Compost Corner' throughout the festival.

Don't miss out on this opportunity to learn from the best and transform your garden into a haven for pollinators and a shining example of sustainable gardening. The Yeo Valley Organic Garden Festival is the perfect place to gain knowledge, inspiration, and practical tips for a greener and more biodiverse garden.
