The LWL Museum Hellerlecht, Westphalian Museum for Culture and History, is set to undergo a significant transformation, including a change in its name and a new corporate design. This decision, made by the LWL Landscape Committee on July 4th, comes after cross-party discussions, negotiations, and a wave of public advocacy from the city of Detmold and the region.

The change in the museum's branding, including the inclusion of "Detmold", will occur simultaneously with the opening of the new entrance and exhibition building in 2026. The new brand will be "LWL Museum Hellerlecht, Westphalian Museum for Culture and History". "Detmold" will be included in headers and titles of print media and websites, official documents, press articles, public promotional materials, and social media.

The decision to retain "Detmold" in the museum's name was influenced by the massive criticism and calls for advocacy from the mayor of Detmold, Frank Hilker, and the region. Thousands of signatures from a hastily launched petition were forwarded to the LWL in Münster by the mayor, contributing to the decision.

The museum will transition to year-round operation after the name change and the implementation of the new corporate design. The new corporate design will be implemented across various media platforms, including print, digital, and social media.

For inquiries regarding this matter, Daniela Lang can be contacted. The resolution to change the name without Detmold in the main title received massive criticism in Detmold and the region, but the inclusion of "Detmold" in the corporate design aims to address these concerns.

The LWL Open-Air Museum in Detmold will retain its location reference in its new brand, maintaining its strong connection with the city and the region. The change in the museum's name will mark a new chapter in its history, while preserving its roots in Detmold.
